How we help
Goal
The WCEF provides short-term emergency financial assistance to families in need in the community, when the cause of the emergency is beyond the control of the person(s) being assisted.
Mission
Our mission is too ease the burden of those in need by mobilizing the power of giving in the local community.
Values
- Respect, dignity and care for one another within and outside the WCEF; and
- Integrity, accountability, effectiveness and transparency.
Assistance 2009
In 2009, with the help of the community, the WCEF raised over $30,000 and disbursed close to $20,000 in assistance to those in need. All received the financial support they required to assist with the situation they were facing.
As word gets out that the WCEF exists, more demands are coming our way. This year we helped an increased number of families deal with emergency situations.
The WCEF was able to help Diana Cross and Steve Armstrong keep their Masham home while waiting for funding to come as a result of Steve’s terminal cancer.
Masham's Peter Reynolds family received the support of the WCEF while their daughter, Shannon, was bravely combating cancer. Your donations helped alleviate some of the travel costs for Peter and Marg to ensure they could be by their daughter’s side on a regular basis during her illness.
Wakefield's own Mary Boyd received support from the WCEF for the high cost of medication, not covered by any health program, to help her keep her strength up between cancer chemo treatments.
Ona Charron, her daughter Jade, and Lee Buck benefited from WCEF financial support when they were left homeless overnight as a result of a flash flood in the village of Wakefield.
We are currently helping the parents of Chelsea's Lauryn Bowie-Jamison who, at 20 months old and for the last 8 months, has been facing significant health concerns. Your funds are helping provide support for the young parents so they can concentrate on their baby getting healthier and ease their financial worries.
